Hi.
Got to work on my Rover 5 bot today!
Here are some pics:
Vanilla Dagu Rover 5, this is the 2 motor versions with encoders.
I am convinced it the best third hand you can get for soldering without spending cash
The first part of the build is done, 7.2V from six NiMH cells inside the body of the rover. Covered by the Pololu RP5/Rover 5 Expansion Plate (I don't like that cover) Power goes to a TrexJr motor controller and an obsolete 5v linear regulator. Added two LED's for power indication (one for the 7.4V and one for the 5V) and thats all so far.
I'm new with robotics and micorcontrollers, but I am an certified service electronics technician so I'ts fun to finally work with some soldering again.
Please ask questions and comment, would love to chat a bit =)

I started building a Rover 5 bot a while back also, but never finished it.
I liked it because it comes with a 4 motor option and has plenty
of speed and power.
As I can see with your chassis it is not very breadboard friendly.
I mounted mine using a using a piece of hardboard. I wasn't
happy with it. I thought about designing 3d-print cover/body.
Have you decided what range sensors you're going to use?
Anyway I took a picture of mine. The motor controller is under the
mounting board, and I'm using 12v AA battery pack.
As you can see the microcontroller (msp430) is not even hooked up.
If I get enough time I might try using the upy board.

Re: Ello Wrld
I got a Sharp 15cm ir ragenfinder i bought with the rover but have not tested it yet. Can't remeber the name, but I can update this post later today with its name.
Was discussing rangefinding with a friend and he asked me if these ultrasonic used on the back of the cars was of any use. So I guess I have to test that one day.
The top cover will be replaced with one in aluminium or wood at some point to make it a bit more friendly. Also the battery pack has to come out of the hull and placed on the back or on top.
Plan is to make a module for power distrobution, that in turn will lower the need of that oversized breadboard/protoboard

Re: Ello Wrld
This rc thing got me so bad!
Anyway. I bought the trexjr from pololu with this chassis but after "playing" with it for a while I really feel that it is a bit overkill and "inconsistent" with its functions (especially serial control).
So today two ultra cheap esc's arrived at my mailbox and I'll see if I can get the motivation back to make it run on some simple code and make the bot move
