For what it's worth, Ampy has been a great piece of software for me, a newcomer to embedded - simple, effective communications and file management between Mac OSX and my ESP8266 Huzzah breakout board from Adafruit. Couldn't be easier, really.

They have been very, very helpful to me, a newcomer. "Ampy," in particular, is a great tool. So pleased Adafruit is devoting this much time to uPython + ESP8266, now five or six videos strong.

I have, by the way, purchased a $150 HP Stream on which I've loaded Ubuntu Gnome - you know, just to compare and contrast experiences, deshipu. :D I'm not claiming linux is any better in terms of quality or number of bugs. It's just the difference in attitude that I'm marveling about. No worries. W...

Well it was most definitely a matter of rebooting the Mac. Problem solved - sort of. ;) Thanks again for everyone's help. Using CoolTerm, which I've used successfully for weeks, I get "An Error Occurred while attempting to open the port - 100: Access Denied."
