I would like to extend the WiFi range of the WiPy.

Is it as simple as plugging an external antenna into the ANT2 connector?

If so, can anyone recommend a suitable WiFi antenna?

You will also have to choose WLAN.EXT_ANT during initialisation of the network, or with the method wlan.antenna(). Have a look at the documentation here:

I tried it using an antenna from a 2.4 GHz RC transmitter with better range than the one on the WiPy PCB. Can't really recommend anything.
