Re: NEW: WiPy 2.0 - shipping 10 Oct 2016
Sounds great but I'd like to know how it achieves a 1KM WiFi range. It seems an astonishing figure if based on the onboard chip antenna and a typical AP with duck aerials. Or is it a special setup with, say, Yagis at both ends of the link?

Yes, sounds unlikely doesn't it?

LoRa is great, and much anticipated by yours truly. But it isn't WiFi. It differs on numerous technical levels.

Thanks - I've removed that reference from my post. Getting confused between the WiPy 2.0 and the LoPy...

How will they differentiate themselves from the throngs of ESP32 boards due out of China any day now?

I was looking for a micropython controller that is LORA enabled and found this forum,
yet 1Km at 2.4 GHz is 100dB free space loss, so for typical wifi sensitivity in oder to have a budget link and in the absence of antenna gain, this needs a huge power that wil burn all the circuits of such a tiny stuff !!
I may be wrong but then please provide the budget link

Just to clarify, the LoRa product from Pycom is the LoPy:
https://www.pycom.io/solutions/py-boards/lopy/
The WiPy 2.0 product in this thread's title is WiFi and Bluetooth only, not LoRa.

Hi all.
So just to clarify about wifi range on WiPy 2.0: are wrong the specification 1KM wifi range on the doc https://www.pycom.io/wp-content/uploads ... wipy20.pdf ? What is the correct (more less) range?
Thank you.
