[MKR GSM 1400 / SAMD21] Micropython support?

Hey Micropython users,
I've seen some activity on SAMD support in the firware downloads page and update notes as well.
Adafruit's micropython fork also seems to have given some attention to SAMD

I tried out Micropython for the first time on a ESP32 IOT project this week, it was great.
Currently waiting for the Arduino MKR GSM 1400 as well, so i'm posting to ask about support for that.

Is it possible to run micropython on MKR GSM 1400 currently?
Is there any difference in compatibiliy between CircuitPython and Micropython regarding SAMD21 soc?
If not, how is progress? And how can i contribute to help development?
