The guys over at https://openmv.io have just announced an updated, Cortex-M7 based openmv module. The camera chip is the same.

They made it 20$ cheaper for preorders, resp. 10$ less for normal orders. That's great news.

It's not yet funded. The expected market launch is in march.

That's a great news. I have the first OpenMV board (and an earlier prototype from the fire sale), and it works as advertised. And they keep on adding new algorithms to it.

I have two projects with them, but they are both paused at the moment. I think I should really give them some more attention.

the only question is... are they going to use 1.8+ micropython or still an outdated 1.4 :?:

Are there any public MicroPython firmware files for OpenMV boards ?

The firmware files are included with the IDE downloads. There is also a public repository, so you can build your own.

v1.8.x is confirmed, see "MicroPython version" topic in OpenMV forum.

Thanks. I've installed OpenMV IDE (on Linux) and the firmware is in "~/openmvide/share/qtcreator/firmware", for "OMV2" (STM32F427) and new "OMV7" (STM32F769) OpenMV boards.

And the OpenMV IDE seems to be well polished, with full of examples in "File -> Examples" in 15 categories.

I think these guys and their project need more support in informational field. There is a lack of info and ignoring from different companies like Adafruit, SparkFun etc. This is very sad because it's a very nice project in MicroPython world.
