I don’t think it really matter very much… it a question of how you intend to turn on and off the current to a particular piece of equipment. But it is probably a good idea to stay away from high voltage and AC current unless you already know a lot about it.

If it were me I look for a DC one of around 12v and use a relay to start prototyping and learn from there.
