Requesting Dedicated MicroBit Cat

Post by mikethebee » Mon Aug 22, 2016 1:03 pm

Apologies if this has been discussed and dismissed already, I am a newbie here, but hope to be an active contributor.

The MicroBit is now rolling out to schools and geeks in the UK, I am with a group who want to contribute MicroPython code and hardware for students to use in projects. I am surprised to see the M:B lumped in as 'other boards' and wanted to ask if it can have its own place.

Thanks, Mike

I'm also in favour of that motion.

As far as I know, there's a dedicated mailing list for MicroPython/micro:bit port, and that's probably why a dedicated section wasn't created on this forum.

There's potentially no reason why it can't be created, though ideally, managers of the mailing list should be contacted first to see if they would have any concerns.

Torwag: can you create a new forum (potentially), or this would require Damien's involvement?

Hi,

I discussed this with Damien already.
The agreement was, that we need to carefully check that Micropython keeps in focus on that forum. That is, sure, we can make a microbit subforum (I could do that), but right now the community of Microbit is already kind of fragmented, due to the different software options. We need to carefully consider, if it would be contra-productive to guide people even more away from a possible central microbit community effort. Even more bad, if this forum would become the quasi microbit central spot. We would have to life with a lot of OT posts or heavily reject posts, both situations which are not very pleasurable.
Damien was rather busy and told me to wait until he could check about possible options and maybe discuss with some of the community members of the microbit project so that we move that in a correct way from both sides.

Give us some time and then something will happen, here or otherwhere ;)
