PYBD WBUS connector

Post by incognico » Mon Mar 25, 2019 2:31 am

Hi all,

I can't seem to find details on the "wbus" connectors on the new D-series boards. Is there a part number somewhere for the mating connector, and some dimensions as to where they should be positioned in relation to the mounting/screw holes?

I am looking to fit a PYBD board onto a custom PCB and based on the description on the store page, I thought this would be clearly documented.
The concept for the D-series of pyboards is a miniature DIP-style form factor useful as both a standalone board and an embedded component for use in final products. On the underside is our WBUS header, a 40+40-pin mezzanine bus connector giving access to all power and IO ports in a highly compact form factor.
Apologies if this documentation is somewhere and I've managed to miss it - I have looked!

See:

To my knowledge there will be mating headers available on the MicroPython store.

I couldn't find any information in the docs. I ordered these DF40 series Hirose connectors and they fit my pyboard

- 40pin male plug that is on the pyboard: https://www.digikey.com/products/en?keywords=h11624ct
- 40pin female socket that is on the WBUS DIP68 breakout: https://www.digikey.com/products/en?key ... 11625ct-nd

Thanks very much for posting this. I searched through hundreds of connector pics/specs and actually ordered the same DF40 ones you linked - but mine haven't arrived yet... so I am very happy to hear yours fit.

FYI, the connector I linked to before fits, but is very low profile. This can be a problem when attaching a pyboard because there is a µSD card connector on the pyboard's bottom side that is thicker than the DF40 connector and therefore prevents the board from seating completely. The WBUS DIP68 breakout board gets around this by adding a cutout in the PCB for the µSD card connector to poke through. An alternative solution is to use taller DF40 connectors (https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/ ... =290724516).

Now that we know what connectors mate to the D series I would like to know how to place these connectors on a PCB for the PYBD to mate to. I cannot find a drawing that shows the coordinate locations for the connectors. Anyone have a link?

Thanks

Rich
