Just a curious thing: there seem to already be a Japanese clone of the micro:bit: https://www.switch-science.com/catalog/2778/

Hello.

I'm Japanese micropythonista and I have this one.

Original micro:bit BLE is not certified the Japanese TELEC.
TELEC is like the FCC, Unfortunately micro:bit can't use in Japan.

So they have created a compatible board that "Chibi:bit".
I'm enjoying it in micropython. That's great!

(Sorry about my poor English. ;) )

ようこそ
would you mind to tell us what is the difference between the micro:bit and the chibi:bit. Also why does Japanese like to call electronic boards chibi (goblin, gnome, runt) ... I know already a couple of projects using this word ;)

I would guess the same reason why we like to call them "micro" in English...

I wonder if it would be possible to buy the chibi:bit outside of Japan somehow -- I realize using the radio module outside of Japan might be illegal, but there are other things on that board too. It would be interesting to compare.

@japaneseuser

The B-button problem has been resolved in the new revisions? Or are they still sold with the button broken.
The video over at http://mag.switch-science.com/2016/08/09/chibibit_bug/ doesn't mention newer versions. Which been a couple of months ago, so perhaps there's a new revision.

I'd be interested in purchasing some (this December) if anyone in EU is interested, I can bring a couple back and send them cheaply from UK.

The B-button problem has not yet been resolved and the new revisions has not yet been released.
Chibibit is only beta version. It seems out of stock now.

As far as I know, people who have Chibibit either order a beta version as a test user or bought when sold only at the venue of Maker Faire Tokyo 2016.

I email to switch-science with some question. Just a moment.

I suppose it was release in small quantities, would be great to see the updated release. I'll keep an eye on the website/blog announcements. And of course keep us updated if you get more information :)

I got a email from switch-science.

Q. What is the difference with the original micro:bit?
A. Although circuits and parts might be different, function is the same.
※ As far as I know, Chibibit use HRM1017 BLE module. HRM1017 used nRF51822 in internal.

Q. When it will release?
A. It's going to release within this year.

Q. Is the overseas shipment possible?
A. It plans to launch in mail order site for overseas.
