vbat connection solution ?

Post by IHOXOHI » Thu Jun 11, 2020 10:53 am

Hi,

I use my pretty pyboard with her housing and lcd160. The result is clean. I can connect properly serverals sensors on Y part without ugly wire. It's perfect. Beautiful and convenient.
But, I need to use vbat for saving time, and I have found a big problem for connect a coin cell properly.

I have tried to solder 2 connections under the board for connect a coin cell althoug the result will produce 2 ugly wires... and a "flying coin cell" like a flying sheet... But I did not succeed. The solder does not take on this points!

If somebody has a solution for a clean connection between a coin cell and the pyboard with a housing, or an other way for save time?

Thanks.

Why not run the LCD160CR on the X side? This exposes the socket contacts for the battery so it can plug in normally.

Hi Pyth,

I use the pyboard with her housing... So, X or Y position produce same result.

I can pass 2 littles wires by bottom of housing. But result isn't convenient... with a "flying" coin cell.

I will try to solder directly a coin cell "breakout" under the board, ... space could accept a coin cell...

I will post the result...

Hi,

I have done it.

Nothing outside the housing! Just on top, the lcd160 and one of my different "half protoskin"... Perfect.

Hi,

Big problem!

The coin cell is out in less than 24 hours...

Is it the vback pinout that I have to use?
Otherwise, no way for save time!

Thanks.

The VBACK pin has to be used for RTC backup.

Yes. On Pyboard 1.1 VBAT powers the entire Pyboard and is intended for lithium batteries. See this diagram.

Ok, thanks.

I have found a solution there : https://elfnor.com/pyboard-datalogger.html
So, coincell-gnd on the pin upper X24, and coincell-V+ on the pin upper X22.
I have tested, and for moment it's all right.

Enjoy.
