3rd party manufacturing of pyboard

Post by josie87 » Thu Dec 03, 2015 9:17 am

Hi,

recently I introduced the pyboard to a friend of mine. He works at a small smd assembly company here in Germany. He proposed to produce a small batch of pyboards to see if there is a market here in Germany.
At a later point he would think of customizing the layout a bit. Maybe an integrated display, LAN....

Would that be ok? Are there any fees or donations we should consider?

The money earned by selling pyboards goes into micropython development. If you make sure that some money you earn also goes that way, everyone is happy.

Legally, due to the licenses chosen, you pretty much can do whatever you want.

But you should definitely talk to Damien about this - I'm just a random forum-user ;)

You are free to use the software however you like.

We already sell quite a few pyboards into Germany (in fact the whole world, 67 countries so far!), and I would really prefer if you discuss with me about setting up distribution in Germany, rather than manufactuing your own boards. This will benefit everyone involved.

Don't worry. We aren't doing anything at the moment.

I'm just curious if we would be allowed to produce boards under certain conditions.
