New ESP32 -- bad flash?

Post by whatevs » Wed Oct 02, 2019 9:57 pm

Hi All,

I just bought a new ESP32_DevKitc_V4 off Mouser. It seems to be bunk. I can't flash anything to it. Is there a fix?

Here's the output when I try esptool erase_flash:

Code: Select all

esptool.py v2.6
Serial port COM8
Connecting.....
Chip is ESP32D0WDQ6 (revision 1)
Features: WiFi, BT, Dual Core, 240MHz, VRef calibration in efuse, Coding Scheme None
Uploading stub...
Running stub...
Stub running...
Erasing flash (this may take a while)...

A fatal error occurred: Timed out waiting for packet content
Here's the output when I try esptool write_flash:

Code: Select all

esptool.py v2.6
Serial port COM8
Connecting....
Chip is ESP32D0WDQ6 (revision 1)
Features: WiFi, BT, Dual Core, 240MHz, VRef calibration in efuse, Coding Scheme None

Stub running...
Configuring flash size...
Warning: Could not auto-detect Flash size (FlashID=0xffffff, SizeID=0xff), defaulting to 4MB
Compressed 1169680 bytes to 731921...

A fatal error occurred: Timed out waiting for packet content
Here's what it looks like when I connect through PuTTY:

Code: Select all

rst:0x10 (RTCWDT_RTC_RESET),boot:0x13 (SPI_FAST_FLASH_BOOT)
flash read err, 1000
ets_main.c 371
ets Jun 8 2016 00:22:57

Thanks for any help!

There are some hints at https://github.com/espressif/esptool/wi ... -Selection - does any of that help?
